newsweek:

Here’s our cover this week, featuring a rainbow-haloed Barack Obama—America’s first gay president!

On one hand, I get it, and it’s an allusion to a necessary conversation about how support for equality and a ridiculously broad spectrum of traits code as gay to some parts of America.

On the other hand, the first gay president… would actually be gay (remember when there was that conversation about Bill Clinton being “the first black president” — we tend to do this appalling thing over and over again just with different adjectives).

When things are on the list of things I may not see in my lifetime (although when change happens, it happens very fast), the glibness makes me shudder.

This is the presentation of news that has pissed me off the worst all year so far. I’m still enraged.
